The Universal Laws of Success in Networking

Shaking hands at a networking meetingActually, these are not just the Universal Laws of Success in Networking, they’re the Universal Laws of Success in life!

The reality is, if you contravene any of these laws, you won’t get closer to what you want, you’ll end up much further away.  This is because, by contravening these laws you’re pushing what you want away from you.

There have been times when I’ve talked about the Universal Laws and I can’t help but notice that some peoples’ eyes simply start to glaze over.  It’s a concept that some of us do seem to struggle to relate to:  That there are a whole range of laws that apply to our lives and affect everything we do.  But why should that really seem so strange?

We happily accept the physicallaws of motion, and of gravity, but then we do have scientifically proven formulae that re-enforce exactly how they work.  With the Universal Laws of Success we don’t have the benefit of formulae to help us work out exactly what’s Sir Isaac Newton - The Universal Laws of Motion and Gravitationhappening and how these laws apply to us.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we did?  Success would be so much simpler!   Mind you.  Until Sir Isaac Newton came along, the laws of motion and of gravity were a complete mystery.

Take gravity, for instance.  Gravity is a Universal Law.  Scientists can study the effects of gravity millions of light years away and it behaves consistently with the formulae that we know and understand.  Funnily enough, it doesn’t matter whether you actually believe in gravity or not, it still continues to work its’ magic in an entirely predictable way.   And so, too, do the Universal Laws of Success!

Perhaps it’s just a matter of time and understanding before we have formulae to understand these laws, too?

The Universal Laws

I’m not going to deal with all of the Universal Laws here.  Just the main ones that we need to have a basic understanding of.  (If you want to know about all of them, get a copy of Brian Tracy’s ”The Universal Laws of Success and Achievement‘.  It’s an excellent piece of work and is all encompassing.)

The laws that we really do need to understand are, in no particular order of importance;

The Law of Cause and Effect – This law really is the granddaddy of all laws.  It’s also known as the Law of Sowing and Reaping and the concept is very similar to that of Karma.  Simply put, every effect has a cause and every cause has an effect – what goes around, comes around.  Simple!

The Law of Responsibility – You are fully responsible for everything you are, everything you have, and everything you become and achieve.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that everything that happens to you is your fault.  However, it does mean that no-one else cares about these things as much as you do, so, don’t wait for someone else to deal your challenges.  Guess what?   They don’t want them.  They have challenges of their own.  The message here is to take control, and deal with your challenges, yourself.  In other words, there will be no thumb sucking, whingeing or whining from here on out.

The Law of Attraction – You are a living magnet. You attract the people, events and circumstances that harmonize with your dominant thoughts.  This law is very closely related to;

The Law of Mind – You become what you think about.  What this, essentially, means is that wherever you find yourself in life today is a direct result of the things you’ve been thinking about up to now.

I know.  Ouch!  This personal responsibility thing is a biggie.

The Law of Reciprocity – People want to pay you back for what you do for them. By making small contributions to others, they will come back to you multiplied.  The trick here is not to force them.  Have no expectations, simply trust that this is the way things work.  Some people call it faith.

By the way if you wondered why it’s important not to have any expectations this may help; When you’re expecting something to happen, what you’re really focusing on is the waiting.  As the Law of Attraction states that we attract whatever harmonizes with our dominant thought ……… QED!

The Law of Relationships – The more people you know, the luckier you’ll be.  The simple truth is, most lucky breaks and opportunities come from people, not from events.

The Law of Preparation – 80 percent of success is determined by your preparation.  Before attempting anything, do your homework and get yourself ready.

The Law of Compensation – Whatever you put in, you will get out.  You will always be compensated in full for whatever you do.  So, if your cup doesn’t ‘runneth over’, think about what you’ve been putting in and how you’ve been doing it.  Then change it because, if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.

The Law of Growth – If you’re not growing, you’re stagnating.  Change is the only constant in life.  Embrace and grow with it so you won’t be caught off guard when it occurs.

The Law of Abundance – There is more than enough of anything you could ever want to satisfy the needs and desires of everyone.

These laws affect everything in life and our understanding of them plays a major role in our ability to get the best from life.

Similarly, our understanding of thse rules also dictates how effective we are when it comes to our business networking.

They provide the foundation for the default set of rules that apply to networking and these rules are further shaped by various aspects of human nature which will become more apparent when we look more closely at the rules themselves.

Wishing you all the very best from your networking efforts.
