What Goes Around, Comes Around

Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.
The man slowly looked up.
This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.
His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. “Leave me alone,” he growled….
To his amazement, the woman continued standing.
She was smiling — her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. “Are you hungry?” she asked.
“No,” he answered sarcastically. “I’ve just come from dining with …

Am I a Fireman Yet?

I recently attended a Poddi networking meeting, which, always proves to be an inspiring and energetic occasion.
At the end of this particular meeting, Roger Lamb – our Business Coach – shared a rather special story with us. As it happens, I think it was a good thing that he left the story until the end of the meeting rather than doing his regular Education Slot early on.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room by the time he finished reading ‘Am I a Fireman Yet?’
This story was so, incredibly, moving that I just had to share …

An Elf’s Tale

From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Cheer
“It was six o’clock at the mall, and I was as exhausted as an elf on Christmas Eve. In fact, I was an elf and it was Christmas Eve. That December of my sixteenth year, I’d been working two jobs to help my parents with my school tuition and to make a little extra holiday money. My second job was as an elf for Santa to help with kids’ photos. Between my two jobs, I’d worked twelve hours straight the day before; on Christmas Eve, things were so busy at Santaland that I …

The Don’t Quit Poem – Inspirational

It’s certainly true that we all have challenges at one time or another and, sometimes, these challenges can make us question ourselves in all kinds of different ways.   In fact, I recently had such a challenge facing me.
At times like this, it’s really nice to know that there’s always someone there to remind us of what’s important and where our focus should be – even though they may not realise what they’ve done or the impact they’ve had!
A very good friend posted this poem on Linked in today – and the timing was perfect.   It’s one of my favourites …

The Cookie Thief ~ A lesson in Assumptions

A woman was waiting at an airport one night,
With several long hours before her flight.
She hunted for a book in the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.
She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,
That the man beside her, as bold as could be,
Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between,
Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.
She munched cookies and watched the clock,
As this gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock.
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
Thinking “If I wasn’t so nice I’d blacken his eye”.
With each cookie …

A Donkeys Tale – A Lesson in Persistence

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.
At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was …

Learning To Listen

Author: Johnny Silvas
We all know what it’s like to get that phone call in the middle of the night.  This night’s call was no different.
Jerking up to the ringing summons, I focused on the red illuminated numbers of my clock.  Midnight.  Panicky thoughts filled my sleep-dazed mind as I grabbed the receiver.  “Hello?”
My heart pounded; I gripped the phone tighter and eyed my husband, who was now turning to face my side of the bed.
“Mama?”
I could hardly hear the whisper over the static.  But my thoughts immediately went to my daughter.  When the desperate sound of a young crying voice …
