The Man Who Thinks He Can

We’ve all heard how important attitude is in life, particularly, if you’re looking to achieve a degree of success on your journey. I first came across The Man Who Thinks He Can in Napoleon Hill’s fabulous book, Think and Grow Rich and it inspired me (as did the book). It helped me to really understand what attitude is all about.  You see, hearing about attitude isn’t enough. We need to know it and embrace it with every fibre of our being.
More importantly, we need to understand that attitude isn’t just ‘positive thinking’. Far from it. It’s about realising that we have …

Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech

When it comes to inspiration, the single greatest resource is, and always has been, people and Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech is absolutely crammed full of inspiration.
In the speech, Steve tells us 3 stories from his past in order to make 3 particular points but each story is peppered with golden nuggets of inspiration to add to the power of each point he makes.
There is a common thread running through the 3 stories which we could describe, quite simply, as ‘shit happens’ – or something of that nature.  But that isn’t what Steve’s stories are all about. Actually, they’re all …

The Don’t Quit Poem

by Edgar A. Guest
I find that the Don’t Quit poem is always there to remind me with a  ‘Don’t Quit’ message to keep me going when things seem tough. And things do seem tough for all of us at times.  No-one’s immune to that.
You may well have heard this before but you can either watch the video (which does miss out the 3rd verse) or read the poem for yourself if you scroll down below the video.

The Don’t Quit Poem

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the …

Am I a Fireman Yet?

I recently attended a Poddi networking meeting, which, always proves to be an inspiring and energetic occasion.
At the end of this particular meeting, Roger Lamb – our Business Coach – shared a rather special story with us. As it happens, I think it was a good thing that he left the story until the end of the meeting rather than doing his regular Education Slot early on.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room by the time he finished reading ‘Am I a Fireman Yet?’
This story was so, incredibly, moving that I just had to share …

An Elf’s Tale

From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christmas Cheer
“It was six o’clock at the mall, and I was as exhausted as an elf on Christmas Eve. In fact, I was an elf and it was Christmas Eve. That December of my sixteenth year, I’d been working two jobs to help my parents with my school tuition and to make a little extra holiday money. My second job was as an elf for Santa to help with kids’ photos. Between my two jobs, I’d worked twelve hours straight the day before; on Christmas Eve, things were so busy at Santaland that I …

Nick Vujicic – Truly Inspirational

Following on from my last post, ‘I Will Fly‘, I remembered Nick Vujicic, a truly inspirational individual.  If you’ve never heard of him or seen him before, you may find the video a little shocking, at least, when you first come to realise the challenges that Nick has  had to face in his life.
And for Nick, those challenges are there every day.  Although, I doubt that he thinks of it that way!  🙂
You see, Nick Vujicic’s a prime example of the strength and determination that pervades the human spirit.  It’s not just that he doesn’t allow his disabilities to stop …

And I Will Fly

If you’re like me, then you can’t help but be touched when you hear about someone that’s suffering from some kind of serious illness or disability.  Particularly, where there’s the distinct possibility that their condition could prove to be life threatening or could lead to them having to face what, to us, are seemingly impossible challenges.  And, unless you’ve faced that kind of a scenario, yourself, it’s difficult to imagine how you would react.
But people do react in very different ways and some of them are, truly, inspirational.  Not only in the way that they face their situation but how …

The Don’t Quit Poem – Inspirational

It’s certainly true that we all have challenges at one time or another and, sometimes, these challenges can make us question ourselves in all kinds of different ways.   In fact, I recently had such a challenge facing me.
At times like this, it’s really nice to know that there’s always someone there to remind us of what’s important and where our focus should be – even though they may not realise what they’ve done or the impact they’ve had!
A very good friend posted this poem on Linked in today – and the timing was perfect.   It’s one of my favourites …
